Little Amal, a 3.5-meter-high puppet created by the Handspring Puppet Company (War Horse), will embark on an extraordinary journey from July to November 2021. Spanning 8,000 kilometers, the puppet will traverse the established refugee route through Europe, passing through various countries, until it arrives at the Manchester International Festival in the UK.

The Walk, as this remarkable performance is called, will encompass 100 theatrical events in 65 cities along the way. Its primary objective is to celebrate the invaluable contributions made by migrants and refugees to the cultures and communities they encounter during their journeys, as well as the countries they eventually settle in.

To accompany this extraordinary adventure, The Long Walk with Little Amal has been published as the official companion book. Authored by Nizar Zuabi (artistic director of Good Chance) and featuring an afterword by David Lan (formerly of The Young Vic and a producer of The Walk), this book provides a deeper insight into the collaborative project.

The journey itself is documented by award-winning photojournalist Andre Liohn, whose images capture the essence of the expedition. Contributing essayists include renowned writers such as Samar Yazbek (Syria), Burhan Sonmez (Turkey), Petros Markaris (Greece), Philippe Claudel (France), Cressida Cowell (UK), Olivier Norek (France), and Timur Vermes (Germany).

Through their words, these authors shed light on the experiences of migrants and refugees, the challenges they face, and the resilience they exhibit in the face of adversity. The Long Walk with Little Amal serves as a powerful testament to the human spirit and the transformative power of compassion.

This extraordinary journey not only showcases the resilience of the human spirit but also raises awareness about the global refugee crisis. It serves as a reminder of the importance of supporting and welcoming migrants and refugees, as they contribute to the richness and diversity of our world.

As Little Amal continues her journey, she carries with her the hopes and dreams of countless individuals who have been forced to leave their homes in search of a better life. The Walk aims to inspire empathy, understanding, and action, as we work together to create a more inclusive and compassionate society for all.
